Aunt Jackie’s Coils and Curls Hair Products Review

Aunt Jackies Coils and Curls

GREAT THURSDAY my sweethearts,

Today I am going to be reviewing some of Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Hair Products but first I want to tell you about the time I’ve been away.

Its been such a relaxed and fun-filled past week. i am so grateful to God for all the amazingness. I feel I can finally put 100% of myself into my work with renewed motivation. In case you are wondering what it is I am going about let me take this moment to fill you in.

The past week wasn’t just Easter for me it was my Graduation week too. My mum, brother and aunt flew in from Harare for the week just to celebrate me. I feel like such a special princess. I love my mum and she means the world to me, she brings me the type of joy that I wouldn’t be able to express in words. Being around her, her laughter and care relaxes and just jump starts my soul maaaan.

Having her around worked wonders for me so with renewed strength and a new sense of purpose I bring you Aunty Jackie’s Curls and Coils hair products review.

Some of you may not know about my hair journey so I am going to redirect you my hair journey story . Cutting my hair was the biggest risk I’d taken since trying to propose to my primary school crush ( and yes, you guessed it, it was a big failure) but non the less, it was his loss, lol!!

I don’t take big risks with my hair or I could even be bold enough to say with my looks either. Even when it came to weaves, I always chose black. Black is safe and Black is Beautiful (see what I did there?? ) !

I jumped in head first and had NO idea what to use, how to style it, what to do with it too, but I’ve since done some research and tried out some good hair products. If you want to know what my Wash Day Routine is like I refer you again to my post on the L.O.C Method

Other than using my Tresemme Naturals Hair Conditioner to  co-wash my hair I discovered the loveliness that us Aunty Jackie’s Curls and Coils. This is an imported products that’s both affordable and great for Natural Hair so I feel I need to take this moment to thank Click SA for making an effort to ensure this product is available for us Natural sistas.

I have a secret to share, walking around in clicks relaxes me, if I am having a really bad day or just feeling like I am not in control of things happening around me a walk about in Clicks looking through and reading all about their beauty products calms me down and when I found the Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils products I was excited.

I had never heard of them before but something about the name promised results, its like having an old family recipe for hair products, something that been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. I am not too sure what their story is but that the version I want to be true so I am sticking to it.

From the time I went natural I watched so many videos that encouraged using a curling cream to style your Teeny Weeny Afro and as a result that is the first thing that caught my eye. The Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La curl defining custard.

Aunt Jackie's Curls and Coils

Are you wondering whether or not the products lived up their hype, well keep reading and I’ll let you know. The Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils brand is without  sulphate, parabens, mineral oils or petrolatum making it beneficial in the pursuit of growing natural hair that is not laden with chemicals. These curls and coils products  come in pastel colours and have a fruity scent that smells so good you may be tempted to taste them ( I did and it didn’t work out great). The fragrances in these products are very sweet. They have very strong floral perfumes and caramel tones. If you enjoy sweet scents like I do then these are the products for you. These products are just amazing:

  • Eco-friendly
  • Sulfate-free
  • Paraben-free
  • No Mineral Oil
  • No Petrolatum
  • Moisturizing

Aunt Jackie's oh so clean shampoo

Aunt Jackie’s Oh So Clean Moisturizing and Softening Shampoo R59 From all the research I have done shampooing natural hair doesn’t seem to be the best way to keep moisturized. Natural 4C hair such as mine dries  up easily and can be easily stripped of its natural nutrients. As a result I never really shampoo my hair, I have opted to co-wash instead, especially considering I do not really use a lot of chemicals so my hair never builds up all that dirt and grime. However, I have tried the oh so clean shampoo and it’s not as moisturizing as it says.

The shampoo is Sulfate Free, Paraben-Free with no mineral oils or petrolatum after washing your hair, it will feel really clean but if I am being honest it’ll feel almost too clean. I didn’t like the feeling so I only use it after I remove braids or a weave because I feel that is the only time my hair requires that much cleaning, lol.

Aunt Jackie’s Knot on my watch Instant Detangling Therapy R49 This is the holy grail products of all my products, one of the reasons I had never kept my natural hair and one of the reasons I believe parents always choose to relax their children’s hair isn’t because they believe black hair is ugly! It’s not that deep, they just know its painful as F***. I have what you call Hard Mashona Type Hair. It’s that tough 4c natural hair that’s just out to give you grief. You know, the kind where if you out an afro comb into it, it wont come out in the other end? Yes, that’s the kind of hair I have. The KNOT ON MY WATCH detangling formula is amazing, if you are a natural sista I think this should be the one product you have in your hair arsenal. It makes my hair feel soft, it almost restores all the moisture that would have been stripped by the shampoo plus you can say good-bye to all your knots and tangles. You no longer have to dread washing or combing your hair.

Aunt Jackie's Curls and Coils

Aunt Jackie’s In Control Softening Conditioner R69  The In Control conditioner is one of the most expensive items in the natural curls, coils and waves range. I expected it rock my world. I was so looking forward to finally having a conditioner that is both pretty looking, sweet-smelling and actually softening, although it works well for softening and conditioning your hair I have to say this product didn’t live up to the hype for me. My Tresemme Naturals Conditioner remains at the top.

Aunt Jackie's Curls and Coils

Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La defining curl custard R59 ooooooookay, I feel like I have saved the best for last here. This curl defining custard is the best thing after sliced bread. It smells sweet, its softening to the hair and it defines your curls. It’s all you need to style your hair, if you have a TWA and you are looking to bring some definition to your finger coils then this is the products I’ll recommend. Everyone in my family uses this product and we love it.  This lilac custard-like styling product comes in a 255 grams transparent plastic tub and I have to say that because my expectations were high, the chances of this product meeting them where insurmountable, but meeting them it did. The addition of Shea Butter and Olive Oil in this product helps it to nourish and moisturize my hair leaving it soft to the touch. The fact that Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coil Curl La La Defining Curl Custard is sulphate-free, has no parabens, no oil minerals or petrolatum is a huge selling factor to me as a naturalista

Have you tried any of Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Products? What did you think ? Do you have any other recommendations ??

I use the Anti-Poof Conditioner. Comb it through in the shower and rinse it out. Then I use the Curl Custard to define my curls. I no longer have triangular, cotton-candy hair like Cathy the cartoon character.

I have only used curl la la on a small section of my hair for twist style and it left hair looking like it was relaxed even thought i have washed it 3 times already. I’m so angry and i may have to cut my hair.

The shampoo left my hair feeling so crunchy I nearly emptied the bottle on the spot! I had residue on my hair after using the curling custard that’s the reason I’m here; wanted to find out if others also experienced same.
