Review – Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation

Choosing The Right Foundation

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

I’ve always been a fan of Maybelline products. A while ago when New Kid On The Block was still next kid on the block I wrote about great foundations for women of colour. Maybelline made it to the top of the collection. I took my time to write this review because I wanted to make sure I give you all the information you’ll need when buying the Maybelline FIT me foundations.

Before we dive right into the Maybelline Fit Me review let’s talk about foundation shades and how you can choose the right foundation for your Skin’s Undertone and Skin Type. I’ve been discussing foundations on social media for a while now and I get the same questions! Why does my foundation go grey/ashy? My foundations look red/orange and My foundation ends up looking darker as the day goes by!

There is a simple explanation to most of these questions. Your skin’s undertone plays a huge role in the foundation that will work for you. Your skin’s undertone is the colour underneath the surface. You can have the same skin colour as someone, but different undertones. Undertones are broken down into three categories (if you use MAC  then that’s sometimes the difference between NW & NC foundation shades):

Cool (pink, red or bluish undertones)
Warm (yellow, peachy, golden undertones)
Neutral (a mix of warm and cool undertones)

I am not going to go too deep into tones today but should this be a topic you want me to discuss be sure to leave a comment below! The three easiest ways to determine what your skin’s Undertone are :

Check Your Veins
Check the inner part of your wrists ( the lightest part where you can see your veins). What colour are your veins, Are they blue or green? If they look more blue, you likely have cool undertones. If the veins look greenish, you’re warm. It’s worth noting, warm girls, that you’re veins aren’t actually green – they look it because you’re seeing them through yellow-toned skin (yellow + blue = green.)

What Jewellery suits you?

Think about whether you look better in silver or gold jewellery. Gold jewellery jut sits well on my skin. If you are cool toned you’ll look better in silver and platinum metals, and warm-toned women look better in gold. And remember when you are doing this test it’s not about what jewellery you would rather have bae buy you. It’s about what looks better against your skin.

Maybelline FIT me! Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation

The Maybelline FIT me! liquid foundation is a lightweight mattifying foundation. It has a slightly runny texture but not to the point of being watery. They suggest using your fingers to apply the matte + poreless foundation. I, however, prefer using a damp beauty sponge (Cala, Urban Studio Delux Beauty Sponges are New Kid On The Block Favourites). The Fit Me foundation has blurring powders that control shine and blur your pores (this is obviously depended on the size of your pores and the way you prep your skin for makeup application)

Review - Maybelline FIT me Foundation

I love the way the Maybelline fit me foundation works, it does what it says it does and that’s one of the things you look for in a foundation. The last thing you want is for brands to sell you dreams. The one thing I have noticed about the foundations is that they are cool toned. They have cool and neutral tones that leave girls like me a little ashy!

The reason I would still give the foundations a 4-star rating is I have found ways to work around it. I use their warmer toned finishing powders which work wonders to bring back colour to my face. If you are a warm toned girl like me you can look into their foundations such as the Dream Matte Mousse (an old favourite) and the superstay collection.

Maybelline FIT me foundation review Review - Maybelline FIT me Foundation

The foundation will give you medium but buildable coverage. 1 layer of foundation evens out my skin beautifully while still retaining a very natural look.  And the second layer of foundation will build the coverage medium to an almost full coverage look.

I have extremely oily skin, the type of skin that you could take oil from and add to your own face and moisturise for a day. It sounds disgusting, I know but its true. I love mattifying foundations. This foundation will give you a mattified pore refined but not flat look.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

The Maybelline FIT me foundations packaging is so cute and functional. It comes in a 30ml plastic tube. The foundation packaging makes the fit me foundation portable, functional and easy to use. You don’t have to worry about wasting the foundation by pouring too much on the back of your hand. Let’s face it, those foundation droppers are a bit too much. From one clumsy girl to the next, I hope other drugstore makeup lines follow this example.

I have been using the Fit me foundation since October 2017 and I’ve had the opportunity to try the foundation at different temperatures and climates. Dear friends Zimbabwe is HOT! I am pleased to say the Fit me foundation held it’s own in extremely high temperatures. Should you have any doubts about the foundation check out my recent vlog. I put the fit me foundation to an 8-hour test and managed to go a full 5 and Half hours without retouching it. I was starting to look tad dewy ( and I don’t mean the sexy summer dewy, nope, the other kind)

Primer is a very important step in my foundation routine. I used the Maybelline super stay primer as a base because I believe in using primers for the benefit of your skin. Whenever you use a foundation it is important to prime your skin first to give your foundation something to stick to and glid onto for perfect application.

The Maybelline FIT me! retails for R99,00 and is available at  Clicks stores nationwide.

I have been tempted to try this for a while because I’ve heard good things. I’m definitely a cool-undertoned girl and worry about products making me look grey or yellow. Because I’m quite pale, a colour difference between body and face is even more noticeable.

And, like you, I also have a phobia of trying out new foundations because I’m terrified of a bad skin reaction.

May I ask what shade you wear? I have been going through your blog and love your reviews, especially because we have the same shade (according to your revlon review) and skin type! Thank you.
