Battle of the Makeup Primers – Wet n Wild, L.A Girl & Catrice Cosmetics

Makeup primer is, in my opinion, a godsend. Whether you wear a full face of makeup every day or you prefer a light BB cream a makeup primer will change the makeup game for you. A makeup primer gives your skin something to hold onto so it can last all through  the day.

Makeup…. Eeeek, I get so excited just talking about it. If there’s one thing I cannot stand it’s having a melted mess on my face after a long day. If you’re one of those people who suffer from oiliness and who’ve been struggling to keep their makeup on point in the sweltering South African heat then a primer should be a part of your beauty arsenal.

Every time I walk into Dischem or Clicks a flood of tickle me pink just takes over my soul, lol. As you’ve probably established from following my blog I am obsessed with foundation. I love trying new foundations and having a collection of foundations that work wonders for my skin and being a skin care enthusiast I know taking care of the skin beneath the foundation is just as important….

(enter primer), because of my love for foundation primer is a must have for me. It’s the real foundation, in all honesty, It’s the base that holds everything together and depending on how good the primer sets a foundation for a FLAWLESS, LONG LASTING look.

As a self-proclaimed makeup addict and a hoarder of foundations, it’s high time I share some of the drugstore primers I use. I am so excited to share this blog post because the primers are all drugstore brands under R100 !!!! There’s nothing more amazing than good quality affordable brands.

Enough babbling, grab a cup coffee, tea or flavoured water and let’s get into this BATTLE.

L.A Girl Pro.Prep Primer ♥R60

Most of the beauty gurus I follow use a lot of high-end foundation primers so when I bought this primer I wasn’t too sure what to expect. A big part of me was really excited to try it out though because L.A Girl Cosmetics makes really affordable good quality products. The Pro Prep Primer is enriched with Vitamin E and promises to smooth and fill in fine lines. The Prop Prep Primer is a good choice budget-friendly foundation base. It’s silicone-based and super lightweight, a great product to use before applying foundation. If I am being honest I prefer my Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser but it is sill a great product to have and use. My only issue with silicone based primers is, I have really oily skin and if I use them on their own oil seems to seep through the base right to the top of my foundation, which as I mentioned before is the one thing  I am always trying to avoid. It is a good foundation primer all in but if you have oily skin like I do then this isn’t the best primer for you. I would rate this primer with ♥♥♥ hearts for oily skin types.

Wet n Wild Coverall Primer ♥R79.95

Okay…… I have to admit when I bought the Wet n Wild  Coverall Primer I was a skeptic. I haven’t used any of their products except for the lipsticks and ever since I discovered MAC I can never go back, lol. But I had to take a leap and just do it. You lovelies count on me to give you good advice on what to buy and what not to spend your cents on. The Wet n Wild Coverall Primer is such a steal.

The magic in this little bottle refines pores, fills fine lines and brightens your complexion. The Wet n Wild team basically put diamonds in a bottle!  The key ingredient in this miracle primer is white sapphire, formulated into a smooth, silky cream that glides on effortlessly, leaving behind a crystal complexion.

The Primer is creamy and mattifying without drying the skin. Ater application you feel and see the difference in your skin. The Wet n Wild Primer has worked wonders for me and it is a sure sign that quality doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. This Magic in a little bottle gets ♥♥♥♥ hearts from me

Catrice Prime and Fine Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base ♥R92.95

And the heavy-weight champion is….(random, I know) ……. The Catrice Prime and Fine Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base. I have a confession to make. I had never used any Catrice cosmetics products before this primer hides but I am so glad I finally decided to try it out. This creamy, anti-shine formula is great for oily skin. It has changed my makeup for real. I am not even playing. My makeup lasts longer and looks better. This light-weight cream is oil free and long lasting. It applies easily on the skin and is great for sensitive skin.

Depending on the day and my mood I switch between the Catrice Prime and Fine Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base and the Wet n Wild  Coverall Primer I am so glad I pushed myself past my comfort zone and tried these new primers. Adding these to my beauty Arsenal has changed my appreciation of foundations and makeup too.

The Catrice Prime and Fine Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base gets an undoubted ♥♥♥♥½ hearts from me. Probably one of my best buys this year. (LMAO, don’t hold me to that, I could have a different love next week.) Confessions of a makeup junkie.

Thank you for the support and I hope you enjoyed reading this. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the Primers above and what your experience was, we all have different skin types and it’s always good to hear about other people’s experiences with products and brands.

Love,

~M

Great review. I’ve been on the hunt for a new primer. I spent loads on a smash box one that I’m not loving…so I’ll definitely try the Catrice one out. It’s so bizarre…I also realised the other day I own nothing from catrice…but I’ve bought items as gifts and recommendEd their products to friends based on reviews I’ve seen.

LOL it is bizarre. I guess you see so many reviews online you feel like you’ve used the products too. I haven’t tried the smashbox primers, I always chicken out after seeing the price. Glad you liked the review dear 🙂
