REVIEW – UBU Famous Five Makeup Brushes

Urban Beauty United South Africa

One of the best things you can ever do for yourself as a beauty junkie or a girl obsessed with cosmetics  is to get yourself a set of high quality make up brushes. I like makeup and I enjoy experimenting with looks and different products. If i had all the money in the world I would probably have a small walk in closet of makeup..

When I initially started using makeup i would use that applicator that came with the products and now I am so happy I know better, don’t laugh I know we’ve all been there.

There isn’t anything wrong with using your hands (its messy but effective) or maybe even those applicators but brushes make all the difference. They can get you from basic to kardashian- looking flawlessness.

I don’t have all the money in the world yet  I have to save a pretty penny to get all the products and items I need to build my makeup arsenal and so far so good. I have two sets of make up brushes and I am excited about that. From using those applicators to using brushes I have come a long way.

I bought the Urban Beauty United Makeup Brushes aka UBU this past month and have been using them for almost a month. I like the colour, its so feminine and pretty. With the way the brushes look you can’t help but allow them to steal your beauty junkie heart, the pearl white handle and copper to is just beautiful.

disclaimer | this is not the entire kit, its their famous 5 brush kit

In my opinion Urban United Brushes and make up equipment is meant for of course ‘your modern day girl” they are affordable without being boring.

I loved the brushes from the moment I saw them, I have used their beauty blender and I like it too. I’d been postponing this but out of fear of disappointment but it was time.

POWDER BRUSH No.10

This brush is meant to be the ultimate multi tasker, you should be able to use for powder, blush, bronzer application. I have to say I am not a fan of this brush. I don’t like the way it feels on my face. A powder brush is meant to be soft and gentle on the skin. Its meant to feather light to allow for a flawless finish. The bristles on the UBU powder brush aren’t soft at all, they leave your face feeling tingly and I prefer not to feel that way. I had to rate this brush I would give it 3 stars

FOUNDATION BRUSH No.20

Although I am more of a beauty blender kinda girl I have to say I like the UBU foundation brush . It applies foundation well on the skin. If i was to rate the foundation brush I would give it 4 stars and that is because it lives lines on the face, I had to go over the foundation with a beauty blender.

CONCEALER BRUSH No.21

Before buying this brush set I had never used a concealer brush before, i would normally use my foundation brush or my finger for that job but now I don’t think I could live without this UBU concealer brush. The size makes it so easy to work with when highlighting your face. I use a cream concealer and helps me get into the small corners of my eyes. If i had to rate it I would give it a 4.5 stars.

EYE DEFINER BRUSH No.31

So I recently purchased the Rimmel Gel Eyeliner and I am obsessed. I can leave the house without a cat eye of sorts. A winged eye look just brings your makeup up a point. This UBU angled brush has been life to me. The size makes it so easy to use and because I am still a novice when it comes to gel liner application this is great news for me. If i had to rate it I would give it a 4.5 stars.

TAPERED BLENDING BRUSH No.35

Mon Cheries you know I now have those LA girl beauty bricks  so a girl needs one of these. The tapered blending brush is meant for easy eye shadow application. the shape allows the brush to reach your eye creases and more. I think I want another one of these brushes, I want to use it apply powder under my eyes after applying my highlight. This brush is soft and honestly its a 5 and an absolute dream. If only UBU had made their powder brush just as soft, maybe its the packet i got but their powder brush needs work.

I am happy I bought these brushes. Overall I like them and what they allow me to with my make up. They are an affordable high quality brand. the brand is living proof that affordable shouldn’t mean low quality. Didn’t know clicks had such good quality make up brushes, thanx for the review.. Would you know where I can get a flat kabuki brush in Grahamstown?

      Hey Noma,

I also want a flat kabuki brush but I haven’t been lucky enough to find it in Grahamstown. UBU has one but I am also unsure of whether they have it in the Grahamstown clicks stores. Foschini is also another place to look
