My Onion Juice & Aunt Jackie’s Coils and Curls Journey
Onion juice, really? That was the first thing that crossed my eyes as I read about using onion juice as part of your daily hair routine. A lot went through my mind, the curious cat in me went straight to google. Lol, the internet has a lot of weird things. Intriguing right?
I was so intrigued, I had to go on this journey. I needed to share the results of my experiment! It’s for the sake of humanity! I owe it to all my natural hair sisters with their kinks, coils and curls. Onion juice is high in sulphur, which is one of the building blocks for hair. Onion juice helps with circulation, helps nourish your hair and as a result stimulates hair growth.
Here is a video on my YouTube Channel that shows you the start of the journey as well as how I use Apple Cider Vinegar to clean and clarify my hair.
If you are still trying to figure out what’s going on, let me spell it out for you. This is the first of many blog posts. I will be trying out as many natural hair remedies and products as a way to see if they actually work as advertised.
The Onion Juice Test
I haven’t quite figured out how often I am going to be using onion juice in my hair for. Articles on the internet give different solutions. I guess it’s because what works for one person’s hair may not be true to mine or yours. You all know, if you don’t have pictures as proof, it never happened. I have pictures that I will share at the end of the journey to compare the before and the after.
I am extremely excited about this, I am feeling almost nostalgic. This reminds me of my days in high school when we did the iodine test in biology class. LOL, I could end up going around town smelling like a stew just so I find out if this works. I want to be able to give you sound advice followed up with proof of concept.
Aunt Jackie’s Coils & Curls Flaxseed Recipes
In addition, I will be testing out the Aunt Jackie’s range. Are you one of those people that walk into a supply store and wonders, “what really works”? They are so many natural hair products on the market those isles can be confusing. Since natural is such a new thing for me, knowing what works and what doesn’t is important for me. I would hate to spend at least R600 on hair care products that do not really work.
The Aunt Jackie’s Coils & Curls line has 6 products. Well, seven actually if you decide to buy the edge gel. I decided to skip that because what can you really say about edge gel. Plus !!! It costs a shocking R120 for a bottle the size of my fist.
Flaxseed Wash Product Range
The first product from the Flaxseed Recipes line that I am going to be testing out is their Moisturising Co-wash Cleanser. I was one of those naturalistas that believed you could use any conditioner to co-wash your hair. Whilst the jury is still out on co-washing I’ll be on my own truth-seeking journey. The flaxseed range is enriched with flaxseed, avocado, coconut and apple cider vinegar which is meant to clean your hair whilst replenishing moisture.
I am without a doubt a home remedies lover, I love mixing together my own ingredients to make masks. However, I’ve been looking for a product that I can use to deep condition and treat my hair. The Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Fix My Hair, intensive repair conditioning masque came at the perfect time. Aunt Jackie promises to repair beyond compare! Hahaha dreams sold, This mask is perfect for 2a – 4d hair. I have a blog post that can help you figure out your hair type! As the self-appointed test subject, I cannot wait to update you all on the progress.
From my understanding, the Aunt Jackie’s Half & Half Hydrating Silkening Hair Milk can be used to detangle and refresh dry, thirsty natural hair. One of the ingredients on this hair milk really caught my attention. The hair milk is said to have Marshmallow root and to be honest, I just thought about the marshmallows I put in my coffee or use to make S’mores. Watch this space for more on Marshmallow root.
Flaxseed LOC Method Range
You all know your girl, New Kid On The Block is about the LOC method, I had to get the Soft All Over Multi-Purpose Oil. It has Coconut oil, Jojoba oil, Shea butter, Grape seed and Ginseng. I have to admit, the yellow colour of the oil puts me off. it has me thinking the oils in the bottle are way too refines to have an effect or impact on the state of my hair or its health. Which is why I had to include it. I have to try it out to see if it works as
Listen, I cannot possibly explain to you guys how excited about this new journey. The Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed range was made easy. The “seal it up‘ Hydrating Sealing Butter is great for chronically dry hair. This range breaks things down so well if you’re new to the game you’ll the steps. You co-wash, deep condition, detangle & hydrate then you follow this by using an oil and a cream. If you’d like to see my natural hair care routine follow the link below. You will not be disappointed !!
